Until now, even when data was stored locally, an organisation using Claude on a cloud platform might see its inference requests go abroad. That is no longer the case. Through AWS Regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, both the data at rest and the processing will stay in India.
This affords enterprises the control they need over sensitive matters and helps them square off with regulatory expectations. The deployment comes with the kind of audit trails, access controls and governance that are non-negotiable before AI is allowed into mission-critical workflows. In sectors from healthcare to payments where cross-border data is under a microscope, local inference provides the assurance needed for responsible use.

“It is an important step for regulated institutions,” says Ashok Vaswani, CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank. Irina Ghose of Anthropic India views it as a turning point for the enterprise, while Sandeep Dutta, President of AWS India, notes that firms can now put Claude on the very cloud infrastructure they already rely on for critical workloads.
You will find Claude being put to use by some of India’s top names – Axis Bank, TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, LTM, LTTS, IndusInd and NPCI among them. They are incorporating it into everything from customer service to software modernisation.
Building India’s AI Ecosystem with Local Talent and Infrastructure
Anthropic is not just rolling out the technology; it is also putting resources behind the talent in India. At an upcoming event in Bengaluru for the first Claude Certification for Partners, 5,000 professionals are to be certified. The idea is to have a robust pool of developers and architects who can govern and deploy these solutions in a regulated setting.
There is a clear transition underway in India from mere experimentation to full-scale deployment. By offering in-country inference on trusted AWS ground and building out the partner ecosystem, Anthropic is enabling organisations to get advanced AI up and running without having to cede on data sovereignty or compliance.
