Google has announced a fresh USD 8 million investment in India’s AI Centres of Excellence, reinforcing its long-term commitment to building locally relevant, sustainable, and socially impactful artificial intelligence. The funding will support advanced research across healthcare, language technologies, and agriculture, while also backing renewable energy infrastructure to power AI operations responsibly. The move highlights India’s growing role as a global hub for applied AI innovation. 

Strengthening India’s AI Research Ecosystem 

The investment will be channelled into India’s government-backed AI Centres of Excellence, which are designed to bridge the gap between academic research, startups, and real-world deployment. Google’s funding aims to accelerate the development of India-specific AI models trained on local data, addressing challenges that global, one-size-fits-all systems often fail to solve. 

By supporting these centres, Google is helping nurture talent, expand compute access, and enable collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and industry partners.
